Little Smarty

Oh my little Hannah… As most parents John and I have learned the fine art of giving our children options when we want them to do something. After a fun day out and about with the family poor little Hannah is just exhausted. She has had no nap so almost immediately upon walking in the door we let her know it will be bedtime in 5 minutes. When her 5 minutes are up we ask her who she wants to put her to bed, Mommy or Daddy. She thinks about it for roughly 30 seconds then answers “Katie!”. Gotta love her!

Katie and the Polka Dot Dress

I went out last weekend and found two really cute matching dresses for Katie and Hannah. I had intended to use them for some pictures of the two of them but also for their pictures with Santa. Katie LOVED hers and wanted to wear it to school. I explained that fancy dresses weren’t very good for school because you can’t play on the playground and get dirty in them but she could wear it at the Christmas pagent if she liked. She thought about that for a moment then decided she would take pictures of it for each of her classmates and bring it to school to show them. Today I was talking with the mother of one of the boys in class and she said that Sam had come home with a picture of Katie’s dress. He also stated that Will didn’t want his but he wanted his because Katie was his girlfriend and that’s what boyfriends do.

Lady Luck

John and I neither have any luck at all. We don’t gamble. We hate Vegas and that suits us just fine. Katie seems to have followed suit. HANNAH on the other hand seems to have ALL the luck! We sat down to play Texas hold em one day. John’s idea to teach Katie. (I’m not taking credit for this one!) And Hannah wanted to play too. She won EVERY hand. It was hilarious! John kept teasing her checking her clothes to see if she was hiding cards. Gotta love it. I guess ONE of us will be going to Vegas some day.

White! White!

Well it’s been a week now with Hannah wanting to wear the SAME dress everyday. Thank goodness I bought two of them. One for Katie and one for Hannah. Katie has graciously given hers up to keep the peace in the house. It’s the first time I have been caught up on laundry since I have to wash one of them everynight. If it isn’t ready by morning when Hannah wakes up we get a teary, sad “WHITE! WHITE!” Which is what she calls this dress. Boy is she a princess! ; )

I had a little accident

I hear Katie calling me from the bathroom. “Mommy… I had a little accident.” I come in and she looks up at me and says, “I couldn’t get on here in time. I had my princess dress in this hand and my cookie in this hand.” Well who WOULD put a cookie down?

I’m not prepared for that…

We are a pickle eating family! As we are enjoying some pickles John makes a comment on how we ought to move to Mt. Olive (where our pickles are made in NC). To that I continue with how John should get a job there instead so we could get free pickles. In typical fashion John then passes the buck and says to Katie “Why don’t you get a job at the pickle factory?” Katie’s response… “I’m not prepared for that.”

Fancy Nancy Tea Party

What a fun little tea party. Katie and Hannah had a tea party with their two good friends Dagny & Carter. They have been playing with Dagny and Carter since moving to the new house a couple of years ago. The girls got to pick out all kinds of jewelry and dress up. They had a blast. It was Dagny’s birthday so it was a perfect day for a party. We plan to hand tint these and use them for decor on her friends wall which is decorated in all Fancy Nancy. Can’t wait to post the final images. Should be fun!!!

Bad Guys

Katie and I were driving to the store when she noticed a police car up ahead. She asked if he was giving someone a ticket.  I said no that police don’t always give tickets but he was probably driving around looking for bad guys.  Being curious as to what Katie thinks a bad guy is I asked her “what do bad guys do that makes them bad?”.  She said, “They steal.  They steal cars. They steal phones.  Purses.  And toothbrushes.”   And we ALL know how valuable those toothbrushes are!  ;  )

Strawberry Picking!

The girls absolutely LOVE this activity.  Of course I think they consume more than they pick to go home as evidenced by these shots. Hannah was so little last year she was just in the baby bijourn and coudn’t eat a thing so she REALLY got to have fun this year!

Little Girls Tea Party

We got this idea for a friend of mine who is decorating her girls room in all Fancy Nancy.  We pulled together a little party for the girls (and Carter) the only boy who viamently declares Katie to be his girlfriend.   They had a ball trying on all the little hats.  Hannah was having a Mommy moment and wouldn’t let me put her down but she loosened up a little towards the end.

Katie & Hannah’s Sand Birthday Cake

Hannah is getting to the age where she LOVES playing in the sand box. So John went to Lowes this weekend and bought a bunch of sand which we put underneath the play house. The girls have loved it and it has kept them very entertained. Sunday afternoon Katie and Hannah come in. I can tell something is up but I can’t quite make it out. No one is crying but it just doesn’t look right. I pick up Hannah and say what’s wrong Hannah. Katie promptly replies, she ate sand. I ask why she did it and Katie reply’s “I made a sand birthday cake and told her to eat it. Are you mad at me Mommy?” Needless to say, I responded, “Well, I am not happy with you.” And gave her a lecture on how doing things like that could actually HURT Hannah. Then John and I got a good chuckle later when they weren’t watching. Poor Hannah. Such is the life of the little sister!

Easter Bunny Might Catch Us!

We spent this easter at the beach house with the family and Grandma. With Hannah and Katie being so little and the possiblity that they would wake each other up we divided to conquer bedtime. I slept with Katie and John slept with Hannah. On Easter Eve in the middle of the night I hear Katie yell for Mommy. (She didn’t know I was sleeping right next to her.) I tell her I am right here. She says, “Mommy, I leaked!” Obviously she had a little accident. I get up to get her a fresh pair of panties and pajama’s and she is standing on the bed whispering as loud as she can “Mommy HURRY! I don’t want the Easter Bunny to catch us!!!!” Little did she know her Easter basket was already sitting right next to the bed. I don’t know how she missed it.

April Fools!

While we were sitting around waiting till it was time to leave for school I looked at Katie and said, “I totally forgot to tell you!  We are getting a baby elephant today!”  I have never seen so much excitement and surprise on her face.  Shortly followed by “April Fools!”.  It was almost if the color drained out of her face.  But it was quickly replaced by laughter and a smile.  So then we had to call Daddy and tell HIM we were getting a baby elephant!  Then we talked how we would fool all the teachers etc.  So at the point it is time to leave for pre-school I think she gets and and won’t be fooled again so I say, “Guess what?”  Katie, “What?”  Mommy, “We are taking a flying car to school today.” Again EXCITEMENT but this time I said it quickly before she got too worked up.  “April Fools!”  She laughed and laughed.  On the way to school she said, “This is the best day of my life!”  How funny!!!  She fooled everyone all day long about how we had a baby elephant at home.  Including her best friend in class Lily.  Later that night she asked if it could be April Fools day everyday… How funny.

Paci

Half asleep Katie calls out to John in the middle of the night because she has lost her paci.  As John is looking for it and Katie is laying there half asleep she says, “I’m always losing that thing.”   It might be one of those had to be there moments but I was cracking up!

More Funny Katie Comments

March 2009 “Can you get this bow out?  This bow is giving me a heart attack.”  …..  “What is a heart attack?”  Katie talking to Mommy

July 2008
Katie and I were at the pool.  There was a new rule that you had to wear plastic swim pants in the pool.  Katie not being 100% potty trained and me forgetting her swim pants, I told her that if she needed to go to the bathroom not to do it in her swim diaper.  I then told her that if anything got in the pool on accident the lifeguards would kick us out of the pool.  Anyway, oddly 15 minutes later she decided she wanted to go home.  I thought it was a little bit strange but just went ahead home.  Later that afternoon I hear her on the monitor at naptime talking to her dolls. Katie says, “And girls, don’t poop in the pool cuz if you do the lifeguards are going to kick you out.  And it’s gonna hurt.”  I died laughing.  And then of course ran strait upstairs to explain that the life guards were not going to physically kick her out of the pool.”  A good reminder. They really take things LITERALLY.  :  )

My Pretty Princesses

Like all little girls (or I guess MOST little girls) mine love to play princess.   Hannah isn’t much for the dresses yet but you rarely see her without either her sister’s sparkle shoes or princess shoes adorned with a crown and some jewlry.  Katie goes full out of course with the dress and all and then all her friends must be dressed as well!

Stop Growning!

My little girl is getting bigger by the day. I realized she will be 5 years old next year then off to kindergarden.  So lately I have been telling her “STOP GROWING!”  her response is “I can’t Momma.  I have to learn how to do the Monkey Bars!”  Gotta love 4 yr old logic.

First there was Ms. Cutie whom was Katie’s first lovey.  Now for little Hannah there is Ms. Fanny.  Ms. Cutie’s sister.  Oddly enough both girls have taken to them.  Although Hannah has her blanky’s too.   But she loves Ms. Fanny.  She feeds her, hugs her and sleeps with her.  Nothing like a best friend.

Homework

Katie was playing outside with one of the neighbor kids whom is lobbying for a babysitting position. A short time later the neighbor girl had to go inside to do her homework.  While walking home  Katie announced she had to do her homework too.  As we enter the house I start to go to the table to make some imaginary homework like writing her name or something when she very clearly states “And I want to do it myself. I don’t want you to help me.”  So I hang back and wait for her to call me.  I realize shortly afterwards she is sweeping the kitchen floor! ha ha!  I guess that IS home work!

Hannah and the Jump Rope

Ah my little Hannah.  She SO wants to be just like her big sister.  Katie was furiously trying to learn how to jump rope.  We had a few touch and go moments of frustration but she finally got it and was starting to really go.  Then Hannah decided to get into the action. I have never laughed so hard.  She jumped right on the rope looked at me and started clapping and laughing for herself.   Of course Katie was baffled we were going along with it clapping along with her being she didn’t ACTUALLY jump the rope.
