Doing Housework

Well this isn’t going to make me look too good but it’s too funny not to document. The first clue I had that the girls were unprepared for life was when Katie’s friend Evelyn had to show her how to do the dishes. But last night I was so surprised to turn around and see Hannah washing away at the dishes.  I asked her what she was doing and she said “Doing the dishes! I want to earn some allowance!” I was so proud.  Later I as I was picking up I realized she missed a couple of bowls.  As I washed them and decided since the dishwasher had not been running long I would see if I could squeeze them in.  When I opened the dishwasher I realized there was literally only one bowl lin the whole washer and  a few pieces of cutlery. LOL.  When I went to bed I realized that I’m not even sure the dishes she put away had actually been cleaned since I can’t remember if I ran the dishwasher. Hope we don’t die. LOL.  I guess I have some teaching to do around the house!

About Me | to Katie’s 6th Grade Teacher

When asked to write a paragraph about Katie for her 6th grade teacher I thought her future self might want to know what she was like in 6th grade.  🙂

To whom it may concern:

Katie is hard working and thrives on positive reinforcement.  She loves to joke around but will follow directions to the letter when asked.  She is an exceptional reader and has a very good memory.  She is also very good at math but MUST understand the concept behind the steps or she gets very frustrated.  She will doggedly pursue that understanding and may need to be told to step away from it and come back to it to lower the frustration level. She is a good problem solver and only needs minimal instruction to perform complex tasks or projects.  However when partnered with other students in the past if they did not do their share of the work she did the entire project herself rather than complaining or getting a poor grade.

Socially Katie is very kind hearted and does not like to hurt others feelings. With this she tends to be the peacemaker among friends which can get her drawn into drama and may be misinterpreted if all the facts are not uncovered.  She is working on standing up for herself in a kind manner.

Overall she is a great student in any environment but will thrive even more in a good one.

Thanks for taking an interest in our child! Of course we think she is fabulous!  😉

Katie-isms A Granny Nanny

When telling Katie that buying children things like boberry biscuits after the EOG’s was a good investment and getting the “huh?” look, I explained that children are our future and who was going to take care of me when I was old. After all I took care of her when she was young.  To this she replied “Daddy!” Then I said Daddy was going to be old too.  So she then announced she would be getting us a “Nanny, A Granny Nanny”.  Thanks Katie. Love you too! lol!

Katie-isms | Going to live with us through College

Now this one is an official BET so it’s for the record! Katie INSISTS that when she goes to college which will be NC State by the way, that she absolutely WILL want to live at home.  I told her when she got to that age should would probably be sick of us by then and want to live on her own but she was adamant that she would want to live at home.   So for the record I told her it would go on the blog so I could say “I told you so” later.  :p

Hannah-isms

While listening to the lyrics of a song “My Momma told me at 7 years old you better make friends or your gonna be lonely” Hannah’s reply?  “I can relate”

When being woken up Mommy “rise and shine!” H “Mom, I don’t think I can shine.”

H “I’m just saying” to just about any blunt comment i.e. “Momma, I don’t think you have ever been warm and fuzzy. I’m just saying’.”

H “To be fair, …  I did hit him the head with the jump rope” To be fair is a big one. :p

5th Grade Field Trip | Williamsburg VA

Well, history is not really my thing at least not this kind but I braved the 7 hour bus ride to join my baby in what will probably be my last field trip with her.  My sweet girl is growing up.  She must be a little like me because she thought the bus ride was the best part. ha ha!  So here’s a little flash back to colonial times under Britain’s rule.

Annual Halloween with the Stone Family 2015

Every year we spend Halloween with the Stone family.  I must the adults love it as much as the kids!  Here are a few pics from the kids.  The most important part of the night is the candy exchange where you get rid of the candy you don’t like and exchange it with someone for the candy you DO like.  It’s SERIOUS business people! This year Katie made the pumpkin pie all by herself and both girls were a big help with getting the food together. They are getting so big.

Carving Pumpkins!

The girls are getting quite good at this now that they are older.  I was VERY impressed with Katie’s smiley pumpkins going for a more “Happy Halloween” theme this year and Hannah with her creative witch and Vampire balancing out with a more “Scary Halloween” theme.  I did the throwing up pumpkin.  A twist on my usual surprised O mouth pumpkin and Daddy did his traditional pumpkin he does every year.  The man just doesn’t like change. :p

The State Fair

October is such a busy month. I wish we could spread it out a little.  But we do love the fair. The girls HAVE to have a snow cone on the way in and on the way out. I personally have to have funnel cake and John usually has to try whatever new crazy fried thing they introduce. Sadly we were a little late getting to the fair this year so we left school a little early and Daddy couldn’t get off to come.  But the girls rode their first BIG roller coaster and loved it!  Well, loved it and hated it as it should be…
